Shareholder Advocacy
As Green Century’s first full-time shareholder advocate I led efforts to improve the environmental practices of public companies.
I researched corporate practices and formulated improvements that made both business and environmental sense. I negotiated with senior company management and when necessary filed shareholder resolutions to bring reluctant companies to the table. I participated in coalitions of investor groups and issue-based NGOs.
Targeted companies included Dow Chemical, DuPont, Apple, International Paper, Whole Foods, Dell, Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips; issue areas included climate change, wilderness preservation, agricultural practices, chemical plant safety, and toxics.
